맬번 칼리지 도쿄(Malvern College Tokyo, 이하 MCT)가 2023년 8월에 시작한 학교의 첫 학년도 개교를 공식적으로 기념하는 개교식 행사를 어제 개최했다. 주빈에는 주일 영국대사 줄리아 롱보텀 CMG(Julia Longbottom CMG), 노벨 화학상 수상자이자 스탠퍼드대학교 의과대학 교수인 로저 D. 콘버그(Roger D. Kornberg) 교수, 맬번 칼리지 인터내셔널(Malvern College International)의 공동 설립자 겸 최고 경영자 재클린 소(Jacqueline So), 맬번 칼리지 교장 키스 멧칼프(Keith Metcalfe), 맬번 칼리지 도쿄의 창립 교장 마이크 스펜서(Mike Spencer) 등이 포함됐다. 또한 정계, 교육계, 재계를 대표하는 300여 명의 내빈이 참석해 행사를 축하했다.

롱바텀 대사는 존경받는 영국 교육 기관이 일본 학교를 시작하는 중요성에 대해 다음과 같이 이야기했다. “맬번 칼리지 도쿄는 일본에서 국제 교육의 경계를 확장하면서 서로 다른 두 문화의 강점을 취할 수 있는 학교이다.”
